Apparition Series

Apparition - the sudden appearance of something remarkable.

This body of work stands as a record of the brilliant imagination of artist Dean Miller. Each piece takes you on an incredible journey inside the realm of his creative process. In preparation of each painting, Dean formulates some of his own mediums for different textures and colours through a technique of crushing and filtering different mineral rocks. This includes lapis lazulite, mica, malachite, and a variety of other different quartz crystals. This used alongside other mediums, pastes and resins set the ground or (frame work) for the presence of different forms and entities to emerge within the piece.

The way in which the work seamlessly merges images within images, is the active component used to stir the imagination of the viewer. At times, these pieces manifest themselves as actual representations of the physical world. A tangible image, upon further study, will morph into a surreal vision containing fluid components of a larger whole. The longer you gaze into the work, the more frequent the figures and forms begin to appear. This often leads the viewer to see their own images within the piece outside of the artists hand, ultimately leading you to one question:

What do you see when you look into the twisted realm of Dean Miller’s Apparitions?
